Brass 2 piece Unions

Indicative reference price: US$15.90/kg. Final price depends on alloy grade, part drawing, batch quantity, machining, testing and delivery scope.

Brass 2 piece Unions are drawing-defined two-component brass union connectors, typically a connection body and captive swivel nut, for joining approved mating interfaces. Cable Glands India accepts drawing-based enquiries from OEMs, EPC contractors and distributors for standard-pattern and custom components, including conventional brass, specified DZR brass and lead-free brass options. Define the connection, operating conditions and inspection requirements so the component can be reviewed against its actual service duty.

Brass 2 piece Unions: Product Overview

Connection Function and Assembly Position

The purpose of brass 2 piece unions is defined by the complete joint, not merely by the external shape. Review the mating component, accessible assembly space and intended fluid path before selecting a catalogue pattern. The term two-piece union is not universal. Confirm the bill of materials, captive-nut arrangement and mating part drawing. A conventional three-piece pipe union is a different assembly and must not be supplied as an unapproved substitute. Record the final component orientation and the surfaces used to locate it. An approved section view is particularly useful when a sealing surface or blind cavity is difficult to describe in a purchase schedule.

Component Geometry and Connected Parts

Important drawing terms include union body, captive swivel nut, sealing nose, nut retaining shoulder, mating seat, assembly clearance. These features need a consistent datum scheme so dimensions describe the same part on the supplier and customer drawings. Related items may include a valve body, pump housing, manifold, hose assembly or adjoining pipe fitting. Include the interface drawing when the performance of one feature depends on another component. The photograph is an illustrative product view, not a dimensional acceptance document.

Standard Patterns and Drawing-Based Variations

The range includes Two-piece swivel unions, Male-body swivel connectors, Female swivel connectors, Flat-seat union connectors, Cone-seat union connectors, Custom captive-nut assemblies. A familiar commercial name can cover several geometries across markets. Confirm the overall envelope, head or body shape, useful thread length and any required wrenching feature. A revised bore, longer stem or altered shoulder may change machining time and the available wall section. Customer approval is required before a dimensionally similar substitute is introduced into an established assembly.

Threaded Interfaces and Sealing Strategy

Pipe threads locate and retain the component, but the sealing strategy must be stated separately. Identify a taper-thread seal, face washer, O-ring or union seat as applicable. Seal compatibility depends on fluid, temperature and assembly conditions. A component supplied without a seal should not be assumed to include one because a catalogue illustration shows a completed joint. Define which party supplies the sealing material and how the assembled connection will be checked.

Service Conditions and Design Review

The union nut usually provides clamping force while the defined seat or gasket provides the seal. Thread sealant on the nut does not correct an incompatible seat, damaged sealing face or missing gasket. Review vibration, pipe support, pressure cycling and environmental exposure alongside steady working conditions. The fitting should be selected by the responsible system designer. A change in brass grade does not automatically resolve a poor sealing interface or an overloaded connection. Explain unusual cleaning chemicals, intermittent steam exposure or temperature excursions in the enquiry so they can be considered before production.

Supply Form and Procurement Scope

Specify loose individual parts, matched assemblies, kits or distributor packs as required. A supply programme can distinguish prototypes, first-article samples and repeat batches rather than using a single undifferentiated quantity. Define the part number, drawing revision and packaging unit. Any special marking must remain readable after finishing and must not damage the sealing or pressure-retaining section. Commercial approval should cover the complete agreed scope and acceptance plan.

Key Features

• Defined union body and mating-interface requirements.
• Standard-pattern and customer-drawing configurations.
• BSP parallel, BSP taper or NPT options subject to specification.
• Conventional, DZR and lead-free brass families for application-led selection.
• Machined threads, bores, wrenching and sealing features.
• Natural brass and specified surface-finish options.
• Inspection and documentation scoped to the purchase order.
• OEM, project and distributor packaging requirements by agreement.

union body and Dimensional Control

Identify the dimensions that affect installation and function rather than applying an unnecessarily tight tolerance to every surface. Nominal connection size, thread depth and useful engagement need clear callouts. Agree how the feature will be measured and whether the inspection result is recorded for every item or through an approved sampling plan. This approach keeps the production drawing practical while protecting the dimensions that determine fit in the finished assembly.

captive swivel nut and Assembly Access

Allow sufficient room for the intended tool and for the mating component to be installed. A feature that looks accessible on an isolated model may be obstructed by a panel, adjacent line or mounting bracket. State any limitation on wrench swing, axial travel or access for seal replacement. Include the surrounding assembly envelope when it affects the final shape. Product selection should consider maintenance access as well as initial installation.

sealing nose and Surface Integrity

Specify sealing surfaces independently from cosmetic surfaces. Tool marks, dents and coating build-up can affect a joint even when the major dimensions are acceptable. Surface condition should be assessed after the final manufacturing and finishing operations. Define any prohibited witness marks or handling damage at enquiry stage. Packaging may need individual separators or protective closures where metal-to-metal contact during transport could affect assembly performance.

Material Traceability and Repeat Orders

Keep the purchased alloy designation and raw-material batch associated with the production lot. A general description such as yellow brass is not enough for a controlled OEM programme. Repeat orders should reference the approved grade, process condition and drawing revision. Material substitutions require written agreement. Traceability depth, record retention and certificate format should be proportionate to the application and established before the first production batch is released.

Clean Bores and Controlled Deburring

Cleaning and deburring requirements depend on the product function. Open passages need control of loose chips and intersecting-bore burrs, while blind closures need inspection for trapped debris. Do not remove a functional edge or sealing land under a general instruction to break all corners. The drawing should identify any required chamfer or edge condition. Specify cleanliness and protective packing where downstream equipment is sensitive to residual particles.

Finish and Installation Consistency

Natural brass appearance can vary with alloy, machining and storage. If nickel plating or another coating is required, state the finish specification and which surfaces must be masked. Final thread acceptance must account for the coating condition. Installation instructions should identify the correct tool and approved sealing materials. No generic torque value is assigned across the range, because size, thread design, lubrication and mating material influence assembly behaviour.

Technical Specifications

Raw Material Grades and International Cross-References

The table covers relevant brass families for brass 2 piece unions; it does not claim that every brass alloy is interchangeable or routinely stocked. Select the exact grade, stock standard, condition and manufacturing route. A wrought bar alloy must not be relabelled as an equivalent casting alloy, and a commercial cross-reference is not sufficient evidence for dual certification.

Additional brass grades can be assessed from the customer specification. Chemical limits, mechanical requirements and impurity restrictions must be checked against the ordered standard and edition. Lead-free is a defined procurement or regulatory requirement, not a synonym for every low-lead brass. Material compliance does not by itself certify the finished fitting for potable water, gas or another regulated application.

DZR, ECO BRASS and Lead-Free Selection

DZR Brass

Dezincification resistance concerns the behaviour of the alloy in the relevant water environment. Specify the grade and processing condition as well as the corrosion-test method. The acceptance criterion must be agreed separately from the laboratory method. A traditional DZR alloy may contain lead, so lead-content requirements need their own declaration. Changes to heat treatment or manufacturing route should be reviewed when they affect the qualified material condition.

Lead-Free Silicon Brass and ECO BRASS

Silicon-brass families provide an alternative material route when a programme requires restricted lead content. The requested designation should identify whether the source is wrought bar, a forging blank or a casting. ECO BRASS denotes a defined commercial alloy family rather than a universal description for any environmentally marketed brass. Confirm material identity and supporting documents before using the name on an order, certificate or distributor data sheet.

Material Approval for the Destination Market

State the sales destination, wetted-service duty and any third-party approval needed. Drinking-water, gas and specialist industrial programmes may require finished-product testing and documented approval in addition to chemical analysis. No NSF, WRAS, ACS, gas or pressure-equipment approval is claimed for every item on this page. Required approvals and declarations are reviewed as part of the specific quotation and must be confirmed before supply is accepted.

Product Types and Variants

A distributor assortment should use separate controlled part numbers for distinct grades and thread systems. An equal-size fitting and a reducing version must not share an ambiguous stock description. Where a customer-specific design replaces a standard pattern, mark the drawing revision and mating-interface requirement clearly. This reduces receiving errors and helps maintain consistent replacement parts throughout an equipment programme.

Industrial Applications

Manufacturing Process

1. Drawing and feasibility review: confirm the product geometry, joint function, material, volume and acceptance plan before selecting tooling.
2. Raw-material control: identify the alloy and required stock condition; review supplied certificates against the order.
3. Blank preparation: select a bar-machined, forged or suitable cast route based on geometry and production economics.
4. Machining: establish threads, bores, seats, wrenching surfaces and other functional features to the controlled drawing.
5. Deburring and cleaning: remove loose chips without damaging thread leads, sealing edges or retention features.
6. Finishing and assembly: apply agreed surface treatments and assemble any specified nut or sealing elements.
7. Inspection and dispatch: complete the agreed checks, documentation and protective packaging before shipment.

Body and nut are manufactured and inspected as separate components, then assembled using the approved retention method. Seat geometry and nut freedom of movement are checked together. Prototype and production routes may differ, so the quotation should identify the intended final method. Changes to tooling, stock form or process sequence require review if they affect the approved characteristics. A first-article report provides a documented basis for assessing the production part before a repeat programme begins.

Quality Standards and Certification Requirements

Pipe-thread requirements may refer to ISO 228-1 for parallel fastening threads, ISO 7-1 for the relevant pressure-jointing thread forms, or ASME B1.20.1 for NPT requirements. These references concern specific thread systems and do not establish a complete product pressure rating. The applicable edition, gauge plan and acceptance procedure must be identified on the order.

Where dezincification testing is specified, ISO 6509-1 provides a test-method framework; acceptance criteria need separate agreement. Material certificate requirements, including any requested EN 10204 document type, must be defined together with the underlying inspection and test scope. A quality-management certificate should be verified for the actual supplying organisation and site. This page does not assign unverified product certifications or test results.

Why Choose Cable Glands India

For an industrial buyer, a useful supplier relationship begins with a complete technical enquiry and a quotation that identifies assumptions. Cable Glands India reviews brass 2 piece unions around the drawing, alloy family, intended manufacturing method and required inspection scope. That approach helps an OEM compare offers on the same basis and helps a distributor avoid combining incompatible thread or material variants under one description.

Enquiries can be organised around a single component or a coordinated family of pipe fittings. Agree part identification, sample approval, packaging, inspection documents and repeat-order changes at the start. Delivery dates and minimum batches are confirmed in the commercial quotation. No universal lead time, tolerance, test capability or material approval is promised without reviewing the specific requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are brass 2 piece unions?

They are drawing-defined two-component brass union connectors, typically a connection body and captive swivel nut, for joining approved mating interfaces. The ordered drawing defines the actual connection sizes, thread standard, material, dimensions and sealing arrangement. The product name describes the component family rather than a universal interchangeable part.

Which brass grades can be considered?

Options include machining and forging grades, specified DZR brass, and lead-free silicon brass such as C69300/CW724R. Select the exact grade and product form at enquiry stage; availability and suitability are confirmed before accepting the order.

Can DZR brass be supplied?

State the required DZR grade, processing condition, corrosion-test method and acceptance criteria. DZR performance and lead content are separate issues. A traditional leaded DZR grade must not be described as a lead-free material merely because it resists dezincification.

Are ECO BRASS and lead-free versions available?

Submit the requested silicon-brass or other lead-free designation and the intended market. The material chemistry, manufacturing route and finished-product requirements must all be reviewed. ECO BRASS is a trade designation; a generic brass description is not sufficient to establish that identity.

Do you offer BSP and NPT threads?

BSP parallel, BSP taper and NPT configurations can be reviewed to drawing. Identify every connection end and its gauge requirement. Thread size alone is insufficient: different thread systems should not be forced together or treated as substitutes.

What pressure rating applies?

A rating must be established for the individual design, material, temperature, seal and application. No single working-pressure figure is assigned to the complete range. Send the working conditions and any required proof or leak test when requesting a quotation.

Can you manufacture to an OEM drawing?

Provide a controlled two-dimensional drawing and, where available, a three-dimensional model. Include critical dimensions, thread callouts, sealing geometry, finish and inspection requirements. A sample can assist review but does not replace the drawing or establish unworn dimensions.

What documents and inspections can be agreed?

Material analysis, dimensional reports, thread-gauge checks, traceability and specified tests can be included in the agreed inspection plan. State the certificate format and sampling expectations before production so responsibilities and acceptance criteria are clear.

What does the price of US$15.90/kg cover?

It is the displayed indicative reference rate for this product family, not an unconditional offer covering every grade, size and quantity. The final quotation identifies tooling, machining, testing, finishing, packing and delivery scope, along with any applicable minimum batch.

What should a distributor include in a repeat-order enquiry?

Use the approved part number and drawing revision, not only the commercial name. State annual demand, call-off quantities, packaging, marking, material declarations and destination. Confirm any changes in mating parts, fluid conditions or regulatory requirements before repeating an earlier purchase.
