Brass Panel Nuts – Conduit Lock Nuts | Manufacturer & Exporter from India

We are one of the leading manufacturers, suppliers and exporters of Brass Panel Nuts and Brass Conduit Lock Nuts from India. We have been supplying Brass Panel Nuts to the world market for 3 decades. Brass Panel Nuts — also known as Brass conduit lock nuts, Brass entry lock nuts, Brass cable gland lock nuts, Brass chase nipple nuts, or Brass grommet nuts — are thin-body hexagonal or round nuts specially designed to secure cable glands, conduit fittings, and cable entry devices in panel cutouts. Their compact, low-profile design allows them to grip the panel material firmly from the inside while the cable gland body is tightened from outside, creating a secure, vibration-resistant assembly. We manufacture Brass Panel Nuts in metric, BSP (British Standard Pipe), and PG (Panzergewinde/cable gland thread) profiles to suit the full range of standard cable glands and conduit connectors. Our ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018 certified manufacturing facility, backed by three decades of global export experience, ensures every Brass Panel Nut meets the dimensional and functional requirements of demanding electrical installation projects worldwide.
Overview
In industrial electrical installations, cable management systems, and enclosure assembly, a panel nut is an essential component that locks a cable gland, conduit entry, or adapter bushing securely to a metal or plastic panel. Without a properly tightened panel nut, cable glands can rotate or loosen under cable tension, vibration, or thermal cycling — compromising the IP-rated seal of the enclosure and potentially creating safety hazards. Brass Panel Nuts are preferred over zinc die-cast or mild steel equivalents due to Brass’s inherent corrosion resistance, good mechanical strength, and compatibility with Brass cable gland bodies — avoiding galvanic corrosion that can occur when dissimilar metals are in contact in moist environments.
Three principal thread forms are used for cable glands and conduit fittings worldwide: metric (M-thread, as per DIN/ISO), BSP (British Standard Pipe, as per BS 2779/ISO 228), and PG thread (Panzergewinde, a legacy European cable gland thread still widely used in Germany, France, and other European countries). Our Brass Panel Nuts cover all three systems in a comprehensive size range from metric M12 to M75, BSP 3/8″ to 2″, and PG7 to PG48.
In addition to the standard hexagonal profile, we manufacture round (circular) panel nuts with flat or knurled outside profiles for installation in round cutouts where a spanner cannot be applied — installation being accomplished by a panel nut wrench (spanner key). For ATEX and explosion-proof applications, we supply panel nuts certified to the appropriate material specification as confirmed by the equipment manufacturer.

Manufacturing Process
Brass Panel Nuts are primarily machined from solid Brass rod or hexagonal Brass bar on CNC multi-spindle automatic lathes or single-spindle CNC turning centers. The sequence begins with bar stock facing and parting to correct thickness, followed by external hex milling or turning (for hex types), ID boring to the relevant cable gland/conduit thread size, thread cutting (internal) by CNC tapping or thread milling, external thread cutting or knurling (for round conduit nut types), chamfering of thread entry, and deburring in vibratory finishing bowls. The resulting panel nut is then inspected for thread accuracy using calibrated go/no-go plug gauges, and for dimensional compliance using vernier calipers and outside micrometers. Plating (nickel, tin, or chrome) is applied if specified, followed by final visual inspection and packing.
International Standards
Brass Panel Nuts for cable gland applications are manufactured to conform with IEC 62444 (Cable Glands for Electrical Installations), BS 6121 (Mechanical Cable Glands), DIN EN 50262 (Cable Glands for Electrical Installations, European), IS 12943 (Indian Standards for Cable Glands), and related standards. Thread forms conform to BS 2779 / ISO 228 (BSP), DIN 40430 (PG thread), and DIN 13 / ISO 261 (metric coarse thread). Dimensional standards for panel nuts follow manufacturer-specific product datasheets aligned with the above gland standards.

Frequently Asked Questions (Q&A)
Q1: What is the difference between a panel nut and a regular hex nut?
A panel nut is specifically designed to be thin-bodied (low profile) and has a thread form matching cable gland or conduit fittings rather than standard bolt threads. It is used to clamp a cable gland or conduit connector to a panel from inside, whereas a regular hex nut is used on bolts and studs for general fastening.
Q2: What thread types do Brass Panel Nuts come in?
We supply Brass Panel Nuts in metric (DIN 13 coarse and fine pitch), BSP (British Standard Pipe — G-thread per ISO 228), and PG thread (Panzergewinde per DIN 40430) profiles. Custom and legacy thread forms (NPT, UN, etc.) are available on special order.
Q3: Are PG thread panel nuts still in production?
Yes. Although PG (Panzergewinde) thread has been superseded by metric thread in new installations per IEC 60423, a large installed base of PG-thread cable glands and conduit fittings remains in use globally, particularly in Germany, France, and export equipment produced for European markets. We continue to manufacture PG panel nuts to support maintenance and replacement requirements.
Q4: Can panel nuts be used in ATEX hazardous areas?
Brass panel nuts are generally acceptable in ATEX zones as accessory components to ATEX-certified cable glands, as Brass is non-sparking. However, formal ATEX certification of the panel nut itself is the responsibility of the cable gland manufacturer’s certification body. We can provide material certificates and test reports to support your certification documentation.
Q5: What is the tightening torque for a Brass panel nut?
Recommended tightening torque depends on thread size and panel material. For M20 Brass panel nuts on mild steel panels, typical torque is 12–18 Nm. Over-tightening can distort the panel cutout or strip the Brass threads. Please refer to the cable gland manufacturer’s installation instructions for specific torque values.
Q6: Do you supply panel nuts with serrated faces for anti-loosening?
Yes. We can supply Brass panel nuts with serrated bearing faces (star washer profile on the bearing face) that provide additional anti-rotation resistance when tightened against a metal panel. These are particularly useful in high-vibration installations.
Q7: Can I get panel nuts to match a specific cable gland brand?
Yes. If you share the cable gland manufacturer’s thread specification (thread form, pitch, tolerance class, and entry diameter), we can manufacture matching panel nuts. We are experienced in producing compatible panel nuts for many well-known European and Indian cable gland brands.
Q8: What is the maximum panel thickness a standard panel nut can accommodate?
Standard Brass panel nuts are designed for panel thicknesses of 1.5–3 mm. For thicker panels, we can supply extended-body (deep) panel nuts with greater internal thread depth. Please specify your panel thickness when ordering.
Q9: Are Brass panel nuts compatible with plastic/GRP enclosures?
Yes. Brass panel nuts can be used with GRP (glass reinforced plastic), polycarbonate, and other plastic enclosures. For plastic panels, reduced tightening torque is recommended to avoid cracking the panel material. Use of a back plate or reinforcing plate behind the panel is advised for large cable gland sizes in plastic panels.
Q10: Do you offer Stainless Steel panel nuts?
Yes. We manufacture panel nuts in Stainless Steel (SS304 and SS316) for highly corrosive environments (coastal, marine, chemical process). Contact us with your size requirements for a quotation.
Q11: What certifications are available with your panel nuts?
We provide raw material test certificates (EN 10204 Type 2.2 or 3.1), dimensional inspection reports, and our ISO 9001:2015 quality management certification with each order. RoHS compliance declarations are provided for all products supplied to the EU.
Q12: Can you do custom outside diameters (OD) for panel nuts?
Yes. If your panel cutout requires a specific seating diameter, we can machine panel nuts to a custom outside profile to match. Round panel nuts with a specific OD are common in cable gland assemblies where a neat, flush appearance in the panel is required.
Q13: How do I measure which size panel nut I need?
Measure the thread diameter of the cable gland entry thread (the threaded section that passes through the panel hole) using a thread gauge or by checking the cable gland’s datasheet. The panel nut must have a matching internal thread. Also confirm whether the thread is metric, BSP, or PG to ensure the correct panel nut is selected.
Q14: Do you supply panel nuts in bulk quantities for OEM use?
Yes, we regularly supply panel nuts in bulk quantities (10,000 to 500,000+ pieces per order) to electrical enclosure manufacturers, switchgear OEMs, and cable gland distributors. Volume pricing is available with dedicated production scheduling.
Q15: What is the difference between a panel nut and a locknut in cable gland terminology?
In cable gland terminology, the terms are often used interchangeably. A “panel nut” (or “counter nut”) refers to the thin nut used behind the panel to secure the gland body, while “locknut” in electrical usage typically also refers to this same component. Some manufacturers distinguish between the two by the presence of a serrated face (locknut) versus a plain face (panel nut), but the distinction is not universal.
Glossary of Terms
BSP thread (British Standard Pipe) – A standard thread form (parallel G-thread per ISO 228 or tapered R-thread per ISO 7-1) used on pipe fittings and cable glands in the UK and many Commonwealth countries. PG thread (Panzergewinde) – A legacy German thread standard for cable glands (DIN 40430), named after “armoured thread.” Though being phased out in favour of metric threads, it remains widely used for replacement purposes. IP rating – Ingress Protection rating (IEC 60529); defines the level of protection of an electrical enclosure against solid particles and water; cable glands and panel nuts contribute to maintaining the enclosure’s IP rating. ATEX – European directive for equipment used in explosive atmospheres; Brass (non-sparking) is a preferred material in ATEX-rated installations. Go/No-Go gauge – A plug gauge used to verify internal thread compliance; the Go plug must engage freely, the No-Go must not. Dezincification resistance (DR) – Alloy property preventing selective zinc leaching in contact with water; relevant for panel nuts in damp or outdoor enclosures.
