Brass Machined Washers (from Bar) – Precision Turned Washers | Manufacturer & Exporter from India

We are one of the leading manufacturers, suppliers and exporters of Brass Machined Washers from India. We have been supplying Brass Machined Washers — also known as Brass turned washers, Brass CNC washers, Brass bar washers, or Brass precision washers — to the world market for 3 decades. Brass Machined Washers from bar differ fundamentally from stamped or pressed Brass washers: they are individually turned on CNC lathes from solid Brass bar or hexagonal bar stock, allowing far greater dimensional precision, tighter tolerances, superior surface finish, and far greater flexibility in geometry compared to anything a stamping press can produce. Non-standard outer diameters, precision-controlled inner diameters, chamfered faces, counterbored profiles, stepped flanges, and combination machined/knurled surfaces are all achievable through CNC turning that would be impossible or prohibitively expensive to produce by stamping. Our Brass Machined Washers are manufactured to DIN 125, DIN 433, DIN 9021, IS 2016, and custom specifications, and are supplied in free-cutting Brass (IS 319 / CW614N / C36000) or any specified alternative alloy including Naval Brass, Phosphor Bronze, or dezincification-resistant Brass. ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018 certified, we supply precision turned Brass washers to engineering OEMs, electrical equipment manufacturers, and specialty fastener distributors globally.
Overview
Brass Machined Washers from bar are essential precision components in applications where the standard stamped washer simply does not offer adequate dimensional control. A stamped Brass washer is produced from strip material in a single blanking operation — the ID punched and OD blanked simultaneously — with tolerance levels typically in the range of ±0.2–0.5 mm on ID and OD, and thickness controlled only by the strip material tolerance. A Brass machined washer, by contrast, is CNC-turned on a lathe with tooling achieving ID tolerance of H7 (±0.012 mm on a 10 mm bore), OD tolerance of h9, and thickness tolerance of ±0.05 mm or tighter. The machined face is flat to within 0.01 mm, and the surface finish is Ra 1.6 µm or better — a quality level that stamping cannot approach.
Beyond dimensional precision, CNC machining from bar enables geometric features impossible in stamped washers: chamfered entry (internal chamfer on the ID for easy bolt assembly), stepped OD (dual-diameter washer body), recessed face (counterbore on the bearing face to locate over a boss), serrated face (integral anti-rotation serrations machined on the bearing surface), and eccentric profiles (non-concentric ID and OD for adjustment applications). Each of these features can be produced on a CNC lathe in the same setup as the basic washer profile, with no additional tooling cost for small or medium runs.
In electrical applications, machined Brass washers with precisely controlled contact surfaces are used under terminal nuts in switchgear, transformer terminal connections, and earthing systems, where uniform contact area and material hardness are essential for low resistance and long-term stability. In hydraulic systems, machined Brass washers with controlled face flatness provide effective metal-to-metal sealing. In precision machinery, machined washers replace shims when the required geometry is too complex for simple flat shim stock.

Manufacturing Process
Brass Machined Washers from bar are produced on CNC multi-spindle automatic lathes or CNC single-spindle turning centers. The manufacturing sequence is: (1) Bar feeding — Brass hex or round bar stock is loaded into the bar feeder and advanced into the spindle. (2) Facing — the end face of the bar is faced to the required surface finish. (3) OD turning — the outer diameter is turned to the specified dimension and tolerance. (4) ID boring/drilling — the inner bore is drilled and bored to the required diameter and tolerance (H7, H8, or custom). (5) ID chamfering — if specified, a lead-in chamfer (typically 45° × 0.5 mm) is cut at the bore entry. (6) OD chamfering — outer diameter edge chamfer if specified. (7) Parting — the washer is parted off to the required thickness from the bar. (8) Secondary operations — face turning (if both faces need machining), external knurling (if specified), counterboring (if a recessed face is required). (9) Deburring — vibratory tumble finishing or manual deburring. (10) Inspection — 100% ID/OD/thickness check using digital micrometers and plug gauges. (11) Plating — nickel, tin, or other coating as specified. (12) Final inspection and packing.

“Cable Glands India produced a complex stepped Brass washer for us — with a counterbore on one face and an ID chamfer — from a sketch we sent them. First articles were perfect. They are flexible, responsive, and technically very capable.”
— Nathan Clarke, Mechanical Design Engineer, Australia
Frequently Asked Questions (Q&A)
Q1: What is the advantage of machined washers over stamped washers?
Machined (turned) washers offer significantly tighter dimensional tolerances (ID, OD, and thickness), better surface finish on the bearing faces, more precise flatness and parallelism, and the ability to incorporate geometric features (chamfers, counterbores, steps, knurling) that stamping cannot produce. For critical engineering applications, machined washers are the correct choice.
Q2: What is the smallest ID you can machine in a Brass washer?
We can machine Brass washers with bore diameters as small as 2.0 mm using micro-boring tooling on CNC lathes. For bores below 2 mm, we recommend consulting our engineering team, as standard tooling limitations may apply.
Q3: Can you produce Brass washers with internal threads?
Yes. We manufacture Brass washer-nuts — components that combine a washer bearing face with an internally threaded bore — in metric, BSP, UNC, and UNF thread profiles. These are used in panel assembly where a nut and washer combination would otherwise be required.
Q4: Do you machine washers from Brass hex bar or round bar?
For washers with an OD smaller than the bar stock’s across-flats dimension, round bar is preferred for efficiency. For washers requiring a specific hexagonal OD profile (hex washers / hex spacers), hexagonal bar is used. For standard round washers, round bar is standard.
Q5: Can you make large OD Brass washers (fender washers)?
Yes. We manufacture Brass fender washers (large OD / small ID ratio) up to OD 150 mm in bar machining, and larger sizes (up to OD 500 mm) from plate or disc in our milling and turning operations.
Q6: What is the difference between DIN 125A and DIN 125B washers?
DIN 125A specifies a plain washer without chamfer on the OD, while DIN 125B specifies the same washer with a chamfer on one face of the OD edge. For machined Brass washers, the chamfer form (B type) is easily added in the CNC turning program at no additional cost for most sizes.
Q7: Can you produce Brass ogee washers for wood applications?
Yes. Brass ogee washers (curved-body or square-taper washers used with wood screws in timber connections) are one of our speciality CNC-turned products, widely exported to the UK, Australia, and the USA for use in wooden marine vessels, garden furniture, and architectural timber connections.
Q8: What is the maximum OD/thickness ratio for a machined Brass washer?
There is no strict limit, but very thin, large-diameter washers (e.g. OD 100 mm, thickness 1 mm) become difficult to hold flat during machining due to distortion. Our engineering team will advise on any dimensional ratio that may present manufacturing challenges.
Q9: Are your Brass machined washers RoHS compliant?
Standard CW614N Brass contains 3% lead and is not REACH-compliant for potable water contact applications. We supply low-lead (< 0.25% Pb) Brass in CW724R or C69300 grades for RoHS/REACH applications on request.
Q10: Do you supply washers with a surface hardness spec?
Brass is not typically hardened, but can be cold-worked to increase hardness slightly. If your application requires a harder washer bearing surface, Phosphor Bronze (CuSn6) machined washers are an excellent alternative — providing significantly higher hardness than Brass while maintaining good machinability and corrosion resistance.
Q11: Can you produce Brass repair washers for oversized bolt holes?
Yes. Brass repair washers — with a very large OD relative to the bolt clearance hole, used to bridge over a damaged or enlarged hole — are produced to custom dimensions. Please specify the required OD, ID, and thickness.
Q12: What is the lead time for sample machined Brass washers?
For simple profiles from standard materials in sample quantities (50–200 pieces), our typical sample lead time is 2–3 weeks. For complex profiles or special materials, allow 3–4 weeks for samples.
Q13: Do you offer Stainless Steel machined washers as well?
Yes. We machine washers in Stainless Steel SS304 and SS316, Aluminium (AA6061, AA6082), Phosphor Bronze (CuSn6), Copper (ETP), and other specified alloys. Please contact us with your requirements.
Q14: Can machined washers be supplied with a test certificate?
Yes. Material test certificates per EN 10204 Type 2.2 or Type 3.1 (mill test certificate with spectrometer results and mechanical properties), and dimensional inspection reports per our standard sampling plan, are provided on request.
Q15: How do I request a quotation for custom machined Brass washers?
Send your drawing (PDF, DXF, or STEP format) or a detailed specification (ID, OD, thickness, tolerance class, material grade, finish, quantity) to sales@cableglandsindia.com. We will review and respond with a quotation within 1–2 business days.
